Learn which Operating Systems you can actually run on your server.
An Operating System is the fundamental software which controls a PC. It takes care of the way your hardware behaves, the communication with peripheral devices for instance a monitor, a printer or a keyboard, the allocation of memory between apps, and the prioritization of apps if multiple ones run simultaneously. Any program which is installed on a notebook or a desktop functions by sending requests to the OS for various services via an application program interface (API). The interaction with the OS can be achieved via a Graphical User Interface (GUI) or a command line. In the Internet hosting world, the OS is what controls a web hosting server along with all of the software installed on it, which includes not only website scripts, but, in addition any other application such as a VOIP or a game server. When there're virtual machines created, they use a guest OS that is run on the server host OS.
Multiple OS in VPS Servers
We provide as many as 3 different Linux releases for the Operating System of our VPS servers
- Debian, CentOS and Ubuntu. These are among the most stable and reliable OSs available and we offer all three instead of just one since we realize that you may want to install some software that has specific requirements with regards to the Operating System it shall run on. The latter is because each of the three Operating Systems has a huge support community behind it and there're various software packages you may install on the web server. Your OS choice will also determine exactly what hosting Control Panel can be installed on the VPS if you want to use one and that's why we offer several Control Panels as well. In the event you decide that you need to have another OS, our tech support team can quickly wipe the existing one and install the one that you want. We also offer an optional service to maintain the OS on your VPS updated weekly.
Multiple OS in Dedicated Servers
We offer three Operating Systems with our dedicated server
packages - CentOS, Ubuntu and Debian. They are all different Linux distributions and we offer them not only because they are absolutely free and they will not increase the low price of your new web hosting server, but also because they are exceptionally stable and secure. Each of them is supported by a huge community of developers, so you will be able to choose from countless software packages that you could install on your server in case the app that you intend to work with has certain requirements. The Operating System will also determine what hosting Control Panel you can use because the Control Panels that we offer are compatible with specific OSs only and since we want to provide you with as much freedom as possible, we offer several OSs and multiple Control Panels. If you get a server with a given OS, we will change it upon request in case it turns out that you need another one. We could also keep the OS updated on a weekly basis as a part of our additional Managed Services upgrade.
